Movin' on up

I bought a Nikon D3100 dslr last night.
Honestly, I'm like a giddy little girl. I've wanted a dslr for awhile now and our little point & shoot broke maybe a month or two ago, which means all the pictures I've taken have been with our little video camera.

Which has worked great and if I was more patient, we could have gotten on just fine with this for awhile. But, the pictures are super low quality. Nothing I could ever get printed in anything bigger than a 4x6.

My sister owns a D3100 and I've used hers once or twice, so I started looking at those on KSL. It's perfect for someone like me who just wants to learn a little bit more about how to take good pictures of her family. I stayed up way too late last night playing with it and watching the training dvds. Even though, the dvd guy was hilariously cheesy, I did learn a few things.

My goal is to be able to shoot in manual. I was reading online this morning (since Jackson is crazy and wakes up before 6 and then goes back to bed at 730 for a couple hours) about aperture, ISO, & shutter speed and man, it sounds so complicated. I think I learned a little bit though.

Anyway, I just want my baby to wake up so I can take him outside and start taking pictures. Here's some that I took in my back yard, just playing around. I think almost all of these are still in auto mode. But I know it'll be awhile before I have a clue about manual.

Kinda fun, right? Granted, I don't actually care about any of these things. I was just trying to find things to focus on. The pretty pink tree is our neighbors and it tends to drive us bonkers because of all the leaves that are in our backyard come fall time. None of these have a drop of editing, which supposedly is the goal? Seriously, every photography suggestions article I've read has said, a good picture is one that needs no editing. Which means, I've never taken a good picture because me like to edit.

Anyway. Yay for me! And you've been warned, this blog is going to have picture overload for awhile.
