So, this has become one of my all-time favorite songs and I'll tell you why. I've always sung a lot. Music puts me in a great mood. My husband has realized this and if I'm feeling grumpy in the car, he'll find my station and crank it up. Remember, I never said, I can sing. I just said, I like singing. Not anywhere noteworthy, around the house, in the car, and especially with kids. I love singing with kids. When I did my student teaching, my favorite time of day was music time. When my brother and sister were babies, I loved singing to them. A lot of this is because my mom sang with us when we were little. And both my mom and my dad liked musicals. My older sister, Jess, was blessed with a beautiful voice, and my little sister and I used to try to sing well at night, laying in our bed. (Sorry, Loo.)
Anyway. That was a lot more information than needed. But, needless to say, I love music.
I knew I'd sing a lot with Jackson. And I do. Anything and everything becomes a song. Leo has a much better voice than I do and you can tell Jackson loves it when he sings. He always has a big grin on his face. Especially when Leo gets his deep voice on.
When Jackson was a colicky newborn, I used to sing this song to him. Make You Feel My Love by Adele. I realize Adele was not the original singer, but come on, it's Adele. She's perfection.
I could rarely get through the song without tearing up and this is why. Read the words and think about a first time mom, trying to help her crying newborn feel happy.
"Make You Feel My Love"
When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.
When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.
(The next part is always where I'd cry.)
I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.
I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.
The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
Though winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.
I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
So, yes. I realize, not very many of you care or should care about this. But since, I hope to someday print my blog as a sort-of journal, I wanted to write down how special this song was to me.
